Today in Washington DC the GOP held a Congressional oversight hearing about the new birth control mandate.
Not one woman was on the panel for the hearing.
Let me repeat.
In a hearing about birth control, an issue that affects largely women, not one woman was on the panel.
Not only were there no women on the Congressional panel, but not one woman testified at the hearing.
Let me remind you, the year is 2012. 99% of American women have used birth control sometime in their life.
And the GOP thinks it’s appropriate to hold a hearing about birth control with zero women involved.
This makes me sick.

Saw this picture on imgur and just had to post it here, because this is without a doubt, one of the most badass women alive. Meet Katrina Hodge, a corporal in the British Army and Miss England 2009. According to Wikipedia, she enlisted back in 2004 after her brother challenged her to and earned the nickname “Combat Barbie” after showing up at her assigned unit wearing false eyelashes, kitten heels (whatever those are) and carry a pink suitcase. In 2005 her unit, the Royal Anglian Regiment, was deployed to Iraq, where she saved the lives of her comrades from a prisoner by wrestling not one, but two rifles from him and then knocking his ass out with her bare hands.
With her bare hands.
Then in 2009, she decided to compete in the Miss England competition to destroy stereotypes about women in the military. She didn’t win (she placed runner-up), but still became Miss England after the woman who did got into a fight and gave up the crown. While Miss England, Hodge convinced the people running the competition to ditch the bikini contest, because she felt that it was more important to be a role model than looking good in a bikini.
In 2010, she handed over the crown and returned to military service, being deployed to Afghanistan.
This woman is both a BAMF and a HBIC. Damn.
My favorite part about this is the expression on her face.
Like, homegirl knows.

TW: Graphic description of domestic violence.
Before you defend Chris Brown, let alone support him, read the police report of what happened between him and Rihanna in 2009.
wow
If you are following me and support Chris Brown, especially after reading this, please unfollow me now.

"talking about virginity is so annoying to me, and here’s why- firstly it’s used as a tool. A tool to reinforce the virgin vs. slut mentality that keeps a lot of girls scared to death because you’re either a cute little virgin or a good-for-one-thing slut, with seemingly no in-between. God forbid a girl has fun right? God forbid she has some nice fun sex and feels all good inside. It’s wrong if a girl does it, and wrong if a guy doesn’t. At least that’s what we’re told. It reinforces the idea that girls should be quiet, conservative, pure, lovely little darlings and guys should be tough conquerors. The virginity myth hurts both genders. And it is a myth. Who the fuck decided that a cock in my vagina is the end of my innocence and purity but a cock in my mouth isn’t? What if I touch it..lick it a little..it goes in but doesn’t pop my cherry..then we decide to stop..What am I then? Am I officially ‘deflowered’ now or am I still a pure little virgin? What if I get raped? And finally your comment just pisses me off. I can’t even tell you how many guys have said that to me so listen: I’m not some gift you get to be excited about opening before any other boys have. I’m not an object, a trophy, a body, a label or any of the fictional categories humanity just loves to stuff itself into to regulate behavior. And if it’s not your comment, it’s these: “oh that’s so good for you! You should really keep it,” or “oh god you shouldn’t do that.” First thing everyone does when you mention your virginity is tell you what to do with it. No. Shut up and stop condescending to me. I’m not an innocent child just because I haven’t and you’re not a big strong man because you have. And I know society has taught you to value virginity in a girl and that as a guy you’re supposed to be the authority on sex but seriously, pull your head out of your ass- sex is natural and awesome and I can decide exactly when and when not to keep my legs shut."

Senator Janet Howell, Baddass Bitch of the Day
To protest a bill that would require women to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion, Virginia State Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) on Monday attached an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication.
“We need some gender equity here,” she told HuffPost. “The Virginia senate is about to pass a bill that will require a woman to have totally unnecessary medical procedure at their cost and inconvenience. If we’re going to do that to women, why not do that to men?”
A FUCKING PLUS.
This is like that state bill that Republicans tried to pass to make drug tests mandatory for either welfare recipients. So a Democrat amended the bill to say that drug tests were also mandatory for lawmakers. The bill was withdrawn.
Badass Democrats FTW!

Rebuttal of the Day: At a taping of her show set to air tomorrow, Ellen DeGeneres called out conservative group One Million Moms (actual membership: 40,000) for calling on JCPenney to dump her as their spokesperson or risk losing customers “with traditional values.”
“I usually don’t talk about stuff like this on my show, but I really want to thank everyone who is supporting me,” Ellen told her audience. “Here are the values I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you’d want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values. That’s what I stand for.”
She then concluded, in signature Ellen fashion: “I also believe in dance.”

There is nothing “natural” about this. Biological essentialism is crap. Individual differences are more statistically significant than gender differences… then you have to account for socialization — which hey, toys contribute to!
LEGO announced that after 4 years of intensive research, they have finally come up with a LEGO product that fulfills the desires of “how girls naturally build and play.” This new theme is called LEGO Friends and it’s a pink and purple, gender segregated, suburban wasteland populated by Barbie/Bratz style dolls. Many parents, educators, feminists, and media critics have spoken out against LEGOs attempts to separate girls into their own stereotypical isolated enclave within the LEGO universe.
In part 1 of my two part LEGO and Gender series, I’ll explore how LEGO went terribly wrong with LEGO Friends and provide a brief history of LEGO’s ridiculous and slightly hilarious attempts to market to girls since the late 70′s. In part 2 I’ll delve into LEGO’s intentional strategy to market almost exclusively to boys since the mid 80′s by developing and marketing sets that are male identified and male centered. In conclusion, I’ll offer LEGO a couple of suggestions that they can consider when creating and marketing new products.

One of the reasons I loved lego so much for so long was because it wasn’t gender specific, there is NO FUCKING NEED AT ALL to differentiate between girls and boys.
Hey maybe just add a larger variety of colours to the blocks available and market it at girls AND boys so that boys get used to playing with pink and not feeling so excluded from the ‘girls’ toy world and the girls get to continue to play with the other colours so they don’t feel so excluded from the boys toys, and so limited to the FUCKING PINK BULLSHITT
WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?!
~Boycott this shit.
